Overview:
This interactive and thought provoking two half-day workshop provides an immersive introduction to Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), a psychodynamic evidence-based approach that helps clinicians accelerate the therapeutic process and improve treatment outcomes. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of ISTDP’s theoretical foundations, key interventions, and practical applications through a combination of didactic instruction and video case presentations of real clients.
Teaching Methods:
- Didactic Presentation: Overview of ISTDP’s theoretical framework and clinical application.
- Video Case Analysis: Review and discussion of recorded therapy sessions.
- Interactive Discussions: Opportunities for participants to ask questions and engage with the material.
- PowerPoint material will be provided post workshop.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
- Understand the core principles of treatment of ISTDP.
- Learn how to identify and address unconscious emotional processes that contribute to psychopathology.
- Learn to assess and regulate Anxiety through an ISTDP lens.
- Observe and assess body language as part of the presentation of defences or openness to therapy.
- Observe real therapy sessions demonstrating ISTDP interventions in practice.
- Develop skills to manage patient resistance and anxiety in a structured and effective way.
